Over the last week and a half, the second largest city in Ross County has formed at the county fairgrounds, which my home overlooks across State Route 104. The 2005 "Easy Rider Rodeo" has made its appearance again at its annual haunt.

Now you'd think that someone like me would be greatly irritated by this (even acknowledging that I choose to live here, with all the activity at the fairgrounds). I prefer the quiet calm of Buzzard's Roost, the deafening silence of 7 Caves, the whisper of wind in the treetops and chirrup of crickets and buzz of a hummingbird's flight.
But the 'testoterone poisoning' of the Rodeo, which reaches me as noise pollution, isn't too bad. I lived too close to the OSU campus for too long. The Rodeo is a walk in the park compared to the sub-human antics of an all-too noticable minority of college students the afternoon before a home football game!

Still, I am aware of the great cultural difference between me and the Rodeo participants. Though I use internal combustion ('infernal' combustion?) to transport myself (most of the time), I do not flaunt it, glorify it, or worship it.
But another difference is that I will be here next week, and the week after that, and I will still be working to bring about a different cultural paradigm - one vastly different than the one they exhausted so recently across the road from me.
Last month I observed a display and picked up a brochure on the "Quilt Barn Trail" in Adams County.
I have learned that Lo! and Behold, a few other Ross County visitors were inspired by that and are organizing a similar "Quilt Barn Trail" here, specifically in Buckskin Township.
More as I learn about it...
