It's been too long, but I needed to regroup and refocus and rebuild...
Greatest apologies for being absent for more that three months. Those who have been most gracious to subscribe will be credited for that time the plus an extra month.
As I have over the last two years indulged in a crash-course re-immersion in Chillicothe / Ross County / south-central Ohio leadership, activism, business, politics, and administration, I have recognized patterns of behavior that I only vaguely understood before I left this area as a young adult some dozen-odd years ago...
Well, more on this soon. But with what I have seen, learned, and experienced, I must reassess my responses to it. Thus, I ask myself:
Why am I doing this? - What is the purpose of Heritage News?
But I was going off-track. I was getting shrill - not hearing myself getting too focused...forming a tunnel vision on issues.
So do I need to do?
More as I continue to ruminate on this topic...
Part of my delay in publication is that my hypertext system became unwieldy, so I have simplified the Frontpage of the Website, as you saw elsewhere.
Another part of the delay is that I have been adding many scanned photos to my computer, which has prompted a reorganization, archiving, and partial renaming of probably 2,000 megabytes worth of more than 1,750 images...
Look for boldfaced headlines and red "new" or gold "updated" notations for new or updated stories since my last 'printing.'
A painting of Brown's Chapel United Mehodist Church near Clarksburg by Chillicothe Art Legue member Patrick Sims was selected to grace the 2005 cover of the Horizon / Chillicothe Telephone directory.
Last fall, Art League members were invited to create illustrations from a small group of Ross County churches, from which Horizon chose the winner.
More information is inside the cover of the directory and in a 10 February Horizon news release. One fact is that the artist is a great-great-great-great-grandson of the founder of the church society.
And now for something completely different: I was referred to a SciFi Channel review of the movie "Dr. Strangelove." One comment made by the reviewer on one of several messages of the film caught my eye - and remind me not only to fight the good fight, but to make sure I 'fight' the right way and for the right reasons:
"The basic dichotomy between the inertia and malignancy of systems versus the short-sighted fumbling of individuals still holds weight."
The work you may have been noticing on State Route 104 from the south edge of the Veterans Administration Medical Center to the highway's intersection with Fairgrounds Road / Infirmary Lane is part of the beginning stages of the State Route 104-207 "Connector" and anticipation fot the SR 104 widening.
I'm disappointed that the local media haven't noticed it; this is the cusp of a lot of work that will drastically alter this northern entry to the Chillicothe. I'm also diappointed that I haven't told you more yet, so...more soon.
P.S. Even though I was a part of the preliminary studied for these two projects, I inadvertently placed myself at a front row seat for the multi-year duration when I moved into the house overlooking the fairgrounds...
