You
must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss
A sigh is just a sigh
The fonder little things apply
As time goes by
And when two lover woo
They still say I love you
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealosy and hate
Woman need a man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny
Its still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

in Bob Smith presents
Michael Curtiz's Casablanca:
There is a famous irony about Steiner's score: He professed to dislike
he song "As Time Goes By." Composed by Herman Hupfeld for a 1931
Broadway revue, it was carried over to the film from the play on which
Casablanca is based. Steiner clearly swallowed his dislike, for the tune
is part of the tapestry of his score, though he also managed to work in
"Perfidia," the melody he wanted to substitute for Hupfeld's
song.
