News from the Officers:

COMMANDER

GREETINGS!  My name is Art Harrell and I am your new 7th District Commander for 2007-8. I hail from Post 757 in Chillicothe, Ohio..

I would like to pass on some information I think is important. Number one, as always, is membership and you will hear more about that throughout the year from 1st Vice, Ralph Roe.  I would like to thank those Posts that are on their way to making quota.

This year I would like to see at least one or more representatives from all 28 Posts attending all four district conferences.

The American Legion cannot survive without your dedication and hard work. Most of you have been doing this for years at your Post level and in your communities and in your projects that support Veterans and Veteran Rights. We need to come together to support the Department of Ohio, the 7th District, and your Posts by attending these sessions.

Please do not hesitate to call if you need help.

For God and Country,

Arthur D. Harrell, Commander

MEMBERSHIP-MEMBERSHIP

We face many challenges in the American Legion.  Membership is one of them.  The reason is obvious.  Membership is the lifeblood of the American Legion.  Without members there would be no Legion programs.  Without members, no voice on Capitol Hill.  Without members, there would be no accomplishment in assistance to veterans, their families, the community, state and nation, but the American Legion has recorded consistent accomplishments for veterans and their families since 1919.

Recruit - Retain - Reinstate.

If you have an honorable discharge or separation showing a period of active military service during any one of the following periods, you are eligible to belong: April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918; December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946; June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955; February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975; August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984; December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990; plus Desert Storm dates August 2, 1990 to cessation of hostilities.
